Northwestern Outstanding graduate program has been honoring alumni for various outstanding achievements since 1973.

Each year, on the last Saturday of April, at the spring alumni reunion, the Northwestern Foundation and Alumni Association celebrate those who have demonstrated recognizable accomplishments in his or her profession, business, avocation or life services in a way that brings pride and honor to Northwestern, according to John Allen, director of alumni relations at Northwestern.

“This is an excellent way to honor our graduates for their accomplished lives,” Allen said. “It also celebrates those individuals – faculty, staff and community – who made a difference in our graduates’ lives during their student careers.”

According to Allen, the program is made possible by the people who nominate individuals to be recognized as outstanding graduates; those who pore over the nomination materials an make the selection; and the many who prepare to make the event successful and memorable.

Other notable contributors to the program is the Alumni board, the Northwestern Foundation and Alumni Association, the university and the Alva community. “Our larger community are continuously engage in honoring our alumni,” Allen said.

Allen added, the basis for the success of the program is the alumni themselves. “Northwestern has graduated an immeasurable number of Rangers who have, or have had, incredible careers,” Allen said.

The categories in which outstanding graduates can be named to include, art, business/professional, education, humanitarian, Ranger spirit and recognition.

The most recent individuals that have been named to the Outstanding Graduates Program in recent years include, Edena Caldwell in the art category, Gary Sacket in the business/professional category, Tom Fischer in the education category, Dr. Reid Holland in the humanitarian category and Linda Tutwiler in the Ranger spirit category.
