Since our humble beginnings in 1902, Delta Zeta has grown to be one of the largest national sororities in membership. Our own chapter here at Northwestern Oklahoma State University actively participates in local philanthropy events. Oh no! Not the sorority lingo! Don’t worry, we can explain. We define philanthropy as service towards our community, college, and our national campaign, Speech and Hearing.
On a national level, our sorority has set a goal to raise $5 million in a 5 year span to fund our partners at the Starkey Hearing Foundation. So far, our 165 chapters from the United States and Canada have together raised over half of our goal in just over two years. But like Jessie J says “Its not about the money..”.
As a chapter, we fundraise and support local causes here in Alva. We have assisted the local women’s shelter in applying paint in one of their residences. Our sisters have also participated in yard cleanups for locals in the area who need a few extra hands. With all of this accomplished as a sisterhood, we are ready to get the rest of our Ranger family involved! Our next project is coming up in a few short weeks!
We invite all of Northwestern’s students, faculty, and staff, to help us in our annual Learn to Listen Week, April 2nd-6th. While we are fortunate enough to utilize our ability to clearly speak and hear, others do not have the same privilege. During this week, Rangers will be able to become educated on ways they are able to help and support our international cause. “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world” -Nelson Mandela.
