Northwestern Women’s Soccer Team had a strong showing Saturday, Sept. 21 against Texas A&M International University in San Antonio, Texas with a 3-1 win for the Rangers.
Yazmin Gomez scored first early for Northwestern in the 14th minute. The Dust Devils of Texas A&M International University would score and tie the game in the 35th minute.
The Rangers responded immediately after that goal. Mikayla Barrientos would score a minute later to make the score 2-1 and give the Rangers the lead. Northwestern led 2-1 going into halftime.
The Rangers defense was solid throughout the second half and only allowed 2 more shots for the Dust Devils. The Dust Devils would not score another goal in the game. Freshman midfielder Carlie Massingale would secure the win for the Rangers with a goal in the 88th minute.
The Rangers would finish victorious with a 3-1 win. Head Coach Eric Solberg was pleased with the win.
“I think it’s always important to score the first goal, really pleased with the way we came out and fought, we were very energized in the beginning of the match today, being the better team from the beginning,” Solberg said.
“I am very pleased with how we responded to the defeat Thursday night in a positive way came back and grabbed a win and really looking forward to see what this team can do once we start conference play next week, but definitely a great way to end non-conference play,” Solberg said.
Northwestern closes non-conference play with a record of 3-3 and already equaling the amount of wins last season..
Northwestern will play next when conference games begin on Friday, Sept. 27 on the road at Southwestern Oklahoma State University.
