As many students begin to turn the page into a new chapter of life, many are now facing the butterflies and fears of moving forward. The class of spring 2020 has faced an interesting last semester, to say the least, and many students’ future plans are now unclear.
As my last finals week as an NWOSU Ranger approaches, I am filled with a strong sense of gratitude.
The opportunities and support this campus has shown me and my classmates has been irreplaceable. While I look forward to moving onto new things, Northwestern and the mass communication department will always hold a special place in my heart.
My decision to major in mass communication was not one that came easily to me. After years of following in my best friend’s footsteps, I decided if she had not led me astray yet, communications probably would not be too terrible. Thank you, Megan Maharry, for helping guide me throughout my college career and life.
Being able to work side by side with the friends I have made through my program has helped me create memories that I will never forget. McKayla Holson and Ashley Watts were always there to remind me of deadlines and keep me smiling throughout our courses together. Being part of this trio made my days a little sweeter.
The students within the communication department all work hard to ensure that the campus media remains up and running, and spend countless hours attempting to keep students, employees and community members informed. Without the hard work and dedication this department puts in, our campus would be missing key components to what makes Northwestern, Northwestern.
My decision to attend college within my home town has allowed me to build relationships with the faculty and staff that I would not have had the opportunity to build elsewhere. Having the ability to meet with my professors face to face in a timely manner has made a world of difference within my studies.
The support and motivation I received from all of my professors have been life-changing, and is something I hope every student will someday experience.
With this being my last story for the Northwestern News as a student, I wanted to ensure credit is given where credit is due. Thank you to all of the communication professors, former and current, for your never-ending support. Thank you to my classmates for putting up with my tendencies to procrastinate and for always lending a helping hand.
Last but not least, thank you to my family. My mom not only acted as a mother through the past four years but as an advisor, professor and friend. Thank you, Dad and Colton, for helping keep Mom sane throughout all the messes I have created. Seeing my mom in a professional setting has made my appreciation for what she does even greater. Without her, my life and the department would be a whole different world. Her willingness to help others and always put her students first is something I strive to be half as good at.
Thank you, NWOSU! Ride, Rangers, Ride!
