Freshman students are happy they picked Northwestern Oklahoma State University as their first university, while transfer students are happy they made the switch.
With fall classes having started almost four weeks ago, Northwestern freshmen were asked to give their opinions on how their very first university experience is going. The feedback was extremely positive, with few students saying that campus should change anything.
“I think the academics are wonderful,” said Ralph “David” McFadden, a Media and Communications major from Pond Creek. “I love just about all of my classes, and I’m enjoying them. Even though it’s only like two or three weeks in, I still enjoy them. I think [campus] is nice. I think it looks great, I think it runs pretty good. I like the fact that students can get hired on as faculty. It’s pretty nice. Pretty good campus. Any issues that I had were addressed almost immediately.”
Another freshman had a similar opinion about campus.
“I enjoy it a lot,” said Hailee Brown, an Elementary Education major from Jetmore, Kansas. “Very nice people here, very clean campus, which I like because there are a lot of campuses that are very gross, but no I really enjoy being here. I have a lot of good classes, a lot of teachers that help. At least these teachers get on a one-on-one basis, like they know your name. A lot of teachers from back home didn’t even care about your name. At least these professors are very caring, and they will help you a lot, which is great.”
Some freshmen even cited Northwestern’s small size and simplicity for why they like this campus.
“I actually really like it, because I’ve found that it takes me exactly five minutes to get to pretty much anywhere, which is nice because if I’m running late then I won’t end up being that late, and I know where everything is now and it’s really easy to remember,” said Kelsey Armstrong, a Biology major from Waukomis. “Since I went to Waukomis, this is really nice because I went to a super small school, so this is like a college version of that. The only thing I didn’t know where it was was Carter Hall, but then I just looked at the map. But … now I know what routes to take.”
A transfer student even said that this campus was a direct upgrade to his previous one.
“I really think it’s just an upgrade,” said Maro Egodotaye a senior Health and Sports Science major from, Dayton Ohio. “My main thing was somewhere that has good resources. The school [Midway University, Kentucky] was nice, it was cool, I liked it, but I just felt like I needed somewhere that was better, and where the people cared more about the students and stuff like that. We have a good weight room, the training room is really nice, we have a lot of stuff in there that I didn’t have at the last school. Everybody knows each other here because it’s a small city, it’s just a nice community, I just like it overall and I just feel like it’s an upgrade from my last school.”
The only thing that anyone said to change about campus was the Wi-Fi and air conditioners.
“Right now, I feel like maybe get some better wi-fi, make sure all the air conditioning is working,” said Egodotaye. “It’s pretty good though. Most of it’s pretty good. My power hasn’t gone out — some of my teammates’ has, but it hasn’t happened to me yet. But I like my dorm, I like the space that I have, and the bathrooms are clean, and yeah, I really don’t have much to complain about.”
