The Ranger rodeo team competed in their second rodeo at Pratt Community College in Kansas.
The Rangers competed Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The women’s team won the rodeo.
The Rangers had competitors come back to the short (championship) round in seven of the nine events. In the barrel racing, Kylee Cahoy had a time of 15.94 in the long (elimination) round, making it back to short round. Cahoy ran a 16.5 in the short round, ending up 10th overall.
In team roping, Dalton Richards, Dustin Searcy, Layne Lagasse and Maverick Harper all made it back, representing Northwestern. Richards roped with Ben Whiddon from Southeastern Oklahoma State University and they had a time of 6.9 in the long go and 13.2 in the short go and ended up second overall. Searcy and Lagasse rope together and had a time of 8.7 in the long round, no time in the short round and ended up fifth overall. Harper roped with Talon Shipman from Garden City Community College and had a time of 12.3 in the long round, no time in the short round, ending up ninth overall.
In goat tying, three women from Northwestern made in back to the short round. Lauren Barnes had a time of 7.4 in the long round, 7.7 in the short round, putting her in second for the weekend. Shayna Miller had a time of 7.4 in the long round, 8.2 in the short round, placing her in third overall. Elli Price had a 7.9 in the long round, 8.0 in the short round, placing sixth overall.
Chase Lako and Hayden Pearce made it back to the short round in calf roping. Lako had a time of 12.4 in the long round, 14.2 in the short round, making him ninth overall. Pearce had a 11.4 in the long round, 22.7 in the short round, leaving him 10th overall.
Shayna Miller was the only Northwestern cowgirl to make it back to the short round in breakaway roping. She had a time of 5.0 in the long round but did not have a time in the short round. She ended up ninth overall.
In steer wrestling, Grayson Allred, Michael Edgmon and Brock White all made it back to the short round for Northwestern. Allred had a 5.0 in the long round and 4.9 in the short round, tying him for first overall. Edgmon had a 5.0 in the long round and a 5.7 in the short, leaving him in third overall. White had a 6.0 in the long round, no time in the short round, placing him 10th for the weekend.
In the saddle bronc, Cole Pacheco made it back to the short round. He had a score of 64 in the long round but did not ride the full eight seconds in the short round, leaving him with a no score. He ended up 10th overall.
Allred is a freshman from Utah majoring in Ag Business. He tied for first in the steer wrestling this weekend and said, “The weekend started out a little rough but I was lucky enough to end it a lot better than I started it. I was very lucky with the good stock I drew this weekend.”
The Ranger rodeo team’s next rodeo is in Stillwater, Okla, today through Saturday.
