Students enrolled in Northwestern’s social work program have been placed in their practicum positions and have begun the hours needed to complete their degrees.  This field experience is vital to the students as it gives them hands-on practice.

Once applicants have completed classes for the program, they must then apply to the field program with letters of recommendation in addition to the application. If chosen, they then interview for the program. The field experience is completed in the final semester of senior year.

There are eight students enrolled in the program and they are placed in various locations in Northwest Oklahoma. Each must complete 410 hours of work experience over the spring semester.

The students and their placements are: Amber Cook, Youth and Family Services; Britainee Clark, Western Plains Youth and Family Services; Jasie Randol,  Preventionworkz; Kylie Pethoud, Oklahoma Department of Human Services; Linda Cline, Woodward Public Schools/OKDHS; Nicole Schacher, Oklahoma Department of Human Services; Raquel Conway, Loaves and Fishes; and Whitney Austin, Horizons Mental Health Center.

The students will be working in adult and child services, drug reduction and mental health services. Shelby Hall, assistant professor of social work and field education, said the students interview with the agency they would like to go to and get placed based off of that interview.
