The 2015 softball season began for the Rangers Saturday in a double-header against UT Permian Basin in Odessa, Texas.

The Ranger women managed to sweep the Falcons with a game one score of 3-1 and game two score of 4-3.

Then the Rangers moved to San Angelo, Texas on Sunday to take on Texas A&M International and Angelo State in another double-header.

Despite the series sweep against UT Permian Basin the day before, the Rangers were not successful this time around against either the Texas A&M International Dust Devils or the Angelo State Rams. The Rangers fell to the Dust Devils 9-5 and then 5-0 to the Rams.

The Rangers wrapped up their play in Texas in Stephenville as they took on the Texanns of Tarleton State Monday afternoon.

The Rangers only managed to score one run for the game after Ranger Shelbie Anderson singled to left field, allowing teammate Payton Garrett to score.

The score by Garrett tied the game up at 1-1 in the top of the third inning.

Following the score, however, the Rangers offense would then fall into a scoring slump, as they left nine runners on base during the game.

The late slump by the Rangers allowed the Texanns to break the 1-1 deadlock in the bottom of the fifth inning after Texann Katelyn Conlee score off an RBI single.

The late score by Tarleton State was the nail in the coffin for the Rangers as the Northwestern women fell 2-1.

The 2-1 loss to the Texanns gave the Rangers a 2-3 overall record to start the season.

Softball will be back on the road this weekend as they start the UAM 8-Game Classic.
