Northwestern is halfway through the intramural football season, so here’s a quick recap.
The current standings are: First, Captain Crunch and the Cereal Killers. Tied first, Touchdowns Automatic. Second, Cooler Bandits. Third, Mel Kiper’s Best Available. Fourth, NWOSU Rodeo. Fifth, The A-team. Sixth, The Fighting Farmers. Tied seventh, The Underdogs (but that may turn around). Tied seventh is the Angels of Death.
Sep. 21 the top two teams will compete to see who remains undefeated. Will it be part of a balanced breakfast murderers or the non-manual scorers?
The next day the two bottom teams will compete.
Who will be at the bottom when all is said and done? Will The Underdogs pull some movie magic and avoid the bottom, or will Angels of Death finally reap their first win?
“It’s a lot bigger deal for some people,” said Chris Lauderdale, the current director of Northwestern intramural sports.
“The winner gets a T-shirt if they win but, the bragging rights are very real for some.”
The T-shirts are sport specific and not just generic designs. “If they’ve won one sport, they may try to get one in another,” Lauderdale said.
There will be a tournament once all the regular season games are done. Northwesten will have one true champion for flag football the rest of the year.“I really enjoy it I always try to get students involved.” Lauderdale said.
He has been the director of intramurals for about six years overall.
“We usually try to end football before fall break,” he said. “That way we can start fresh with whatever we’re doing next.”
Volleyball and dodgeball are the next intramurals coming up once football is over. “Hopefully, we get enough teams,” he said. “Last year is the first I know of that we didn’t have either.”
The Intramurals team will send flyers and emails to everyone about the upcoming sports, and when the 2 meetings for them will be.
