The Northwestern armory received several updates during the winter break.

During the 60 days of work on the armory, work crews converted the old kitchen into a training room and added new electronic batting cages and turf to the drill room.

According to Brad Franz, director of athletics at Northwestern, with all of the new updates, every sport on campus can now train in the armory.

The main sports it will benefit are soccer, softball, and golf. Then when inclement weather occurs, football will be able to utilize the facility as well.

It can also be used for cheer practice and large meetings.

“The armory is one of the first indoor training facilities for our sports and it is one of the best complex’s around,” Franz said.

Franz added that Northwestern athletics is really lucky to have the new and improved armory.

Ranger alumni, Jim Dunning played a vital role in the updates as he donated funds.

Head baseball coach, Sam Carrol said, “I look forward to the baseball team getting better with the new equipment in the armory, and getting to utilize it when the weather gets cold.”  He added, “it is important to have an indoor training facility.”
