The Rangers went on the road over the weekend to face the Arkansas-Monticello Boll Weevils in Monticello, Ark. They made the most of their road trip as they grabbed a 2-1 win in game one and a 4-2 win in game three.

In game one, Ranger Tito Montano Jr. led the way in offense as he went 1 for 4 from the plate with one RBI and one double.

Moantano showed his offensive power early in the second inning has his double brought in teammate Matt Benn to give them a 1-0 lead.

Ranger Jeff Martin would connect in the eighth inning, driving in Logan Greenwalt to give them a 2-0 lead.

The Boll Weevils would add a run in the ninth inning, but the Rangers closing pitcher Chase Randall would shut down the final batters to secure the 2-1 win.

In game two Saturday afternoon the Rangers would grab a 4-2 win in dramatic fashion.

After falling behind 2-0 early in the fifth inning, the Rangers would begin to close in the next inning.

In the sixth inning Ranger Trenton Earley would score after teammate Martin connected for a single.

The Rangers would surpass the Boll Weevils in the seventh inning as Greenwalt singled and Earley laid down a sacrifice bunt that brought in two runs, giving them a 3-2 lead.

Ranger Joshua Caruso would drive in the final run in the ninth inning, lengthening their lead to 4-2 and securing the game-two win.

In game three, the Rangers would fall 1-4.

The Boll Weevils jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, but it was not for long as the Rangers would tie the game up with a double by Caruso, which drove in teammate Blake Jones.

In the fourth inning the Boll Weevils would add two runs on to give them a 3-1 lead and then another in the next inning, extending their lead to 4-1.

Despite the 4-1 loss in game three the Rangers still took the 2-1 series win.

After opening conference play with a 3-6 record, the Rangers baseball team looks to improve upon their start.

The Rangers will get their chance to turn their start around as they will face the Muleriders of Southern Arkansas Friday afternoon.

Leading the way for the Rangers against the Muleriders is the trio of Jeff Martin, Jason Freeman and Logan Porter. Martin leads the trio with 23 hits and 15 RBIs. Freeman, however, leads in runs scored with 10 total, followed by nine apiece for Martin and Porter.

In the Rangers’ last meeting with Southern Arkansas last season, Northwestern was able to take a dominant 10-5 win in game three after falling in game one and two the day before.

The first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday at Myers Stadium. Game two will follow with a scheduled start time of 3:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon the Rangers will close their series with Southern Arkansas out at noon.
