The second annual carnival for the Alva community, including Northwestern students, is on its way.
The clubs and organizations here at NWOSU are hosting the fundraising carnival on the intramural field, Friday. Carnival games, food and inflatables will also be available for enjoyment.
The clubs and organizations are also taking donations for the toy drive for gently used toys.
Tickets and wristbands are available to purchase as well. The wristbands are $20, Individual tickets are $1 or .50 cents for NWOSU students. Each activity will take one ticket, but food will be cash based.
Last year, 2023, was the first carnival that the organizations hosted for the community. They had around 75-100 people show up, including children and students.
SGA is hoping to continue the carnival every year and make it an annual event that the community looks forward to.
The reason for starting the carnival was to gain community outreach and to get a bigger crowd, they want to grow the environment for Alva.
“Having a carnival where people and families can come out to Northwestern and become a positive family friendly environment“ said Austin Rankin, SGA President. “We realize we’ve been kind of lacking in community outreach, so the carnival was created as a tool to bring students on to campus, and reach out to community at the same time”
Since SGA is hosting the carnival, they are hoping to get all the clubs at Northwestern to join and set up their own activity booth, like ring toss, balloon pop, lucky duck and more. About 19 clubs have signed up to participate at the carnival, including Art Society, Bible Chair, Biology, Club, Computer Science Club, Delta Zeta, Disc Golf, FCA, First Gen Club, Forge, GSA, HALO, Med Science, pre-Nursing, O.I.L., Psychology Club, Ranger Business, Wesley House, Writer’s Roundtable and Intramurals. If you’re also interested in joining any of the clubs, they will have that information as well.
The head of the committee teams is Carmen Gonser, scholarship coordinator, located in the Financial Aid office. With the Food, Vendor, Games and Recreation, and Toy Drive committees helping out, it has been pretty smooth, but there’s work that also needs to be done or checking all the boxes and making sure everything is line.
“It’s just lining out the details of what club is hosting what booth and getting in contact with those clubs, because there are a lot of moving parts involved in the carnival,“ said Austin Rankin.
