Week one is in the books for the bad boys of Division I football. From the close call for #2 TCU to the total domination of #1 Ohio State, what follows is the list of the top teams that stood out in this opening week.
First off, BYU opened their season in a nail-bitter against Nebraska. The battle with the Cornhuskers came down to the final play of the game and with a freshman quaterback no less. With Tanner Mangum taking the keys to the cougars offense, it will be interesting to see how well they perform from here on out. Luck may not be on their side twice.
Next, the #9 ranked Georgia Bulldogs came up big time against Lousiana-Monroe. The fact that they could still punch the lights out with a 51- 14 victory in a game shortened by lightning, shows they just might be ready to take a big step up in the SEC East.
You knew next on my list would have to be Alabama. This #3 ranked powerhouse showed everyone once again why they have been a dominant force year in and year out. Behind Derrick Henry’s 147 yard, 3 TD performance, the Crimson Tide rolls over #20 Wisconsin 35-17.
#2 TCU on the other hand looked like they have some work to do after their 23-17 win over Minnesota. After entering the season following a dominant 2014 season, the Horn Frogs were one of my picks to roll on to the playoffs this coming winter. After that performance, I really hope they can dominate the Big 12 teams for the the ramainder of the season and punch their ticket into the playoffs.
And then there was #1 Ohio State. The defending National Champions looked in top form against the Hokies of Virginia Tech.
I was never a fan of the Buckeyes but wow they look great going into the rest of the season…Unfortunately. This team is in great hands for the rest of the season behind the arms of quarterbacks J.T. Barrett and Cardel Jones and on the ground with running Ezekiel Elliot.
