The Northwestern Oklahoma State University volleyball team was on the road Friday and Saturday to Kearney, Nebraska to compete in the New Victorian Inn & Suites/Runza Fall Classic.
Rangers faced opponents Rockhurst University and Texas A&M University—Kingsville on Friday. Rangers dropped both matches with a score of 3-0.
During the first match against Rockhurst, the Rangers kept a close game. Junior Hannah Williams had eight kills and three digs for the Rangers. Senior Carley Greer recorded a team-high of 15 digs. Senior LaMonica Peacock and sophomore Jennifier Eubanks also contributed to the Ranger offense with three blocks each.
Despite the offensive efforts of the Rangers, Rockhurst ended the game with a higher attacking percentage and a total of 47 kills.
In the second match of the afternoon against Texas A&M—Kingsville, the Rangers fell short of the win despite strong offensive efforts from junior Brooklynn Hesson and sophomore Jennifer Eubanks. Hesson and Eubanks had 15 kills combined.
Rangers were back in action on Saturday against opponents University of Nebraska and Western State College. Rangers faced the nationally ranked UNK team first, and lost the match 3-0. However, the Rangers kept themselves in the game. During the third set, Rangers tied the game before UNK got its final two points to seal their victory.
Hesson led the Rangers with eight kills and Geer recorded 21 digs. The Rangers played their final match against Western State College. The Rangers came to life, forcing a total of five sets before falling to Western State 3-2.
The Rangers won the first two sets before losing the last three sets. However, in the third set, the Rangers and Western State battled intensely before Western State took the win with a score of 33-31.
Eubanks had 11 kills and sophomore Kiauna Clark had nine kills, 15 assists and 17 digs.
