The Fall 2016 Education Fair will be hosted at Northwestern Oklahoma State University to help students find employment in Oklahoma Schools.

The event, which will be held in the Ranger Room at the Student center on Northwestern’s Alva campus, will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Nov. 2.

Northwestern professor and associate dean of education Christee Jenlink called the event, “…an excellent opportunity for teacher candidates to have personal discussions with our school partners on their teaching needs.”

Jenlink continued: “The one on one discussions are of utmost importance in understanding needs and expectations of our schools. All education majors need to attend to talk with superintendents, principals, and human resource directors to gain practical knowledge of educational needs and practices to align those with what they are  learning in their preparation program.”

Fifteen high schools and entities will attend the career fair to help Northwestern Oklahoma State University education majors who are looking for employment.

Andrea Lauderdale, NWOSU career services coordinator said that the event would be “vital…[for]…education students to attend in order to make the necessary contacts for employment.”

Jenlink continued, “The event will consist of time for the schools to talk with teacher candidates, Jenlink said.  “There will be opportunities for formal interviews between the schools and the candidates.

Junior elementary education major Emily Harris also agreed that the event was helpful for Northwesterns education students.

“I think the education career fair is extremely important for students that are already in the education program and are about to student teach or are student teaching,” Harris said. “It gives them an opportunity to hand in résumés and talk to future employers.”

Lauderdale stressed that the career fair was not exclusive to fall 2016 graduates. Education majors who have already graduated and teachers who are looking for jobs are also welcome to attend, Lauderdale said.

“Public schools are in desperate need for quality teachers now and in the future,” Lauderdale continued. “The goal of the Education Career Fair is to help schools find quality teachers to fill their job openings.
