Eleven bands will march around the square during Northwestern Oklahoma State University’s Homecoming parade at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 10.
This will be the first Northwestern Homecoming parade and massed band half-time performance for the new Northwestern band director, Dr. Marc Decker.
“I’m delighted to share that we will have near 600 students marching in our homecoming parade this year,” Dr. Decker said. “In addition, more than half of them are able to stay for the football game and participate in a special half-time performance playing alongside the Ranger marching band in what will be a memorable and enjoyable show.”
In addition to Northwestern’s marching band, junior high and high school bands from across Oklahoma and Kansas will be marching in the Homecoming parade. Those bands and their directors, listed by classification, are:
Elementary – Ringwood Elementary Band, Kyle Stewart
Junior High – Pioneer Pleasant Vale Junior High Band, Sherri Lohmann
Junior High – Southwestern Heights Junior High Band, Erika Clausing
Class AA – Pioneer Pleasant Vale High School Band, Sherri Lohmann
Class AA – Ringwood High School Band, Kyle Stewart
Class AA – Waynoka High School Band, Erin Place
Class AA – Turpin High School Band, Phil Burns
Class AAA – Alva High School Band of Gold, Cara Bradt
Class AAA – Hugoton High School Band, Amy Freeman
Class AAAAA – Woodward High School, Daci Crockett
Four of the directors leading their bands in the parade are Northwestern Alumni. They include Bradt, class of 2007; Crockett, class of 2004; Freeman, class of 2001; and Lohmann, class of 2000.
For the massed bands performance, the participating bands will gather on the Ranger Field during halftime of the Homecoming football game with Southeastern Oklahoma State University. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
The NWOSU Homecoming Parade Competition and Massed Band performance are made possible by a generous donation from the Charles Morton Share Trust. The Ranger Band, and all the participating students wish to thank the trustees for their support.
“The students in the Ranger band are thrilled to provide this experience and outreach to the schools in northwest Oklahoma,” Decker said. “We hope to see the entire Ranger Nation at the game. Ride, Rangers, Ride!”
