Northwestern just couldn’t get anything going offensively in the 37-9 loss to the Southeastern Oklahoma State Savage Storm in Durant on Saturday.
Southeastern came out of the gate hot, scoring 27 unanswered points in the first half alone, despite an interception by Trey Merritt.
Merritt would finish the game with seven tackles.
On the offensive side of the ball, things didn’t look pretty.
After a rough first quarter, the red and black looked to Tyler Beasley, the redshirt-junior quarter back out of Cordell, Oklahoma, to change their luck.
Beasley finished the day three for eight in passing with no touchdowns but also no interceptions.
NWOSU finally found the scoreboard in the third quarter with a 37-yard field goal from Zave Goodrich, making it a 27-3 ballgame.
The Savage Storm answered back with another touchdown and a field goal in the fourth quarter, extending their lead, 37-3.
Horatio Smith had the biggest highlight of the game for Northwestern when he took a kickoff return 85-yards to the house in the fourth quarter.
It was the first kickoff return for a touchdown for the Rangers since Jarion Tudman did so against Southern Arkansas in 2006.
With the return, the Rangers brought the game to the final score of 37-9.
With the loss, NWOSU falls to 1-4 on the season.
The red and black will return to Alva for a two-game homestand.
The first home matchup is the annual homecoming game where the Rangers will take on the Tigers of East Central University on Oct. 6.
Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
