As the Rangers entered their opening weekend of Great American Conference play, Kalie Johnson earned her first GAC Freshman Player of the Week honor after an outstanding series, the league announced Tuesday.
Northwestern opened GAC play with a split against Oklahoma Baptist University. Johnson finished the series with a team high eight hits, four runs scored and 12 total bases. Johnson also sent one deep for her first collegiate homerun in the last game of the weekend improving her slugging percentage to .857 in the four games.
A freshman from Tecumseh, Okla., Johnson is fourth in the league with a .462 batting average. She is one of three freshmen hitting about four hundred in Madison Friest and Abby Detar.
Joining Johnson in earning GAC honors was Player of the Week Franki Hull, high school teammate of Johnson’s, from Oklahoma Baptist and Pitcher of the Week Bailey Shaffer from Arkansas Tech.
