The Northwestern Lady Rangers played in their final regular season game on Saturday against the Southeastern Savage Storm.
The Lady Rangers ended the season with a 12-14 overall record and 8-14 in conference play the rangers ended up ninth in the Great American Conference, which was one spot shy of making the GAC tournament.
The Lady Rangers ended up in a 3-way tie for the seventh and eighth seed in the tournament with East Central and Southern Arkansas both finishing 8-14 in conference play, but edged out the Lady Rangers with head to head wins.
The season finale had an exciting start for the Lady Rangers as they hit 5 three pointers in the first quarter. The Lady Rangers did not look back, as they made 10 threes and defeated Southeastern, 77-60.
Faith Simpson led the Lady Rangers in scoring with 30 points and Carly Craig followed with 23 points. The Lady Rangers also got a double-double from Camille Thomas as she put up 10 points with 11 rebounds.
Though some may look at this season as a down year for the Lady Rangers, the future is bright for head coach Tasha Diesselhorst.
After a season where she had to replace four starters from last year’s team, she is in a different situation this year where she will be graduating zero players from this year’s roster.
Returning the whole starting five next season will be big for the Lady Rangers, as this year’s starting five gained experience while playing together this past year.
While the starting five returning is a huge plus for the Lady Rangers, another was getting to see young players such as Ali Zeka and Chrissen Harland. Both came off the bench for the Lady Rangers this season and will return next season. The Lady Rangers are bringing a lot of momentum going into next season and bringing back everyone that was a part of the win.
