The Miss Northwestern organization has filled the positions of executive director and teen director for the 2019-2020 school year. Paige Fischer will serve as executive director, and Olivia Yandel will serve as the teen director.
Here is what you need to know about each role.
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Q: Paige, you are the Miss Northwestern executive director. What does this job entail?
A: I am in charge of leading the Miss Northwestern Committee and organizing the Miss Northwestern competition. Once the Miss Northwestern competition wraps up, I will provide support and guidance for our new Miss Northwestern as she prepares for Miss Oklahoma.
Q: How did you get this position?
A: I was approached about the position by Chesnei Thomas, the former executive director. I know I am going to have some big shoes to fill, as Chesnei took Miss Northwestern to the next level while she was in charge. Chesnei is organized and creative, and she knew all of the “ins-and-outs” of how to run a successful local competition. I am grateful that she will be there to provide support along the way.
Q: What would you like to say to the people who hired you for this position?
A: I would just want them to know how excited and grateful I am for this opportunity. The icing on top is having Olivia as the teen director. We worked together in the NWOSU Recruitment Office, and there is no one else in the world I would rather be on this adventure with.
Q: What should we know about the Miss Northwestern Program?
A: It is an amazing opportunity for NWOSU ladies to earn scholarships – and even have the opportunity to go to the Miss Oklahoma competition. It’s a fabulous way for them to get out of their “comfort zones” and try something new. We will be hosting an information night on September 16 at 6 p.m. in the Student Center Wyatt Room. If any women have interest in Miss Northwestern, I encourage them to come find out more on September 16.
TEEN DIRECTOR
Q: Olivia, you are the teen director of the Miss Northwestern organization. What does your job entail?
A: I will be recruiting young ladies across the state of Oklahoma to come to the pageant, and I will find a good representative for Northwestern at the Miss Oklahoma Teen Pageant. I will be helping the teens turn in their paperwork on time and properly. Once a Miss Northwestern is crowned, I am their “support system,” making sure they get their paperwork in. I help the teen pick out the proper dress, and make sure they are up-to-date on events coming up.
Q: How did you get this position?
A: Paige Fischer asked me if I wanted the job. We have worked together for four years in the recruitment office previously. We work well together, and Paige thinks I am a very well-organized and hard-working person.
Q: What would you like to say to the people that hired you for this position?
A: I want to thank them for the opportunity to take over as the new teen director. I know this is a big deal for Northwestern. … Our main goal with these teens is to give them the best possible outlook on how Northwestern is because we have the possibility to recruit these teens to come to Northwestern. I am proud that they have entrusted me with these duties, and that they have given me the opportunities to show [students] around and let them know what Northwestern is like.
