This week we watched a gem called “Gone Girl” (2014). Go watch it now. Don’t read this article. Seriously, put the paper down and go buy a ticket. If you’ve already seen it, go watch it again. It’s just as good the second time.

Natalie’s Review:

4 out of 5 Stars

There’s so much I want to say about “Gone Girl,” but so little I can reveal without some major spoilers. That’s because “Gone Girl” has shock factor after shock factor. Twists after turns. Surprise! Murder! I don’t even know what’s happening anymore. Surprise! More twists and turns?! Crazy people! I don’t even know what to believe anymore. Is my name still Natalie? I’m telling you, this film takes your brain through the spin cycle. So, to avoid any spoilers, I will maneuver this review like it’s a land mine.

The acting in this film was highly believable and absolutely top-notch. Rosamund Pike and Ben Affleck are both sure to be nominees for an academy award. Neil Patrick Harris should stick with Broadway and “How I Met Your Mother.” At least in that he doesn’t di…… Never mind, avoiding spoilers.

“Gone Girl” is a long movie. Be prepared to set aside a solid 2.5 hours for this film. However, this time flies by, as “Gone Girl” completely sucks you in. Throughout its entirety you want to know what’s going to happen next. The film also leaves you with that feeling as well. That’s right, “Gone Girl” is left open-ended, and it drives me insane, and there needs to be a sequel so I KNOW WHAT HAPPENS NEXT. Like I said, the movie drags you in.

Bottom Line: “Gone Girl” is a cleverly crafted psychological thriller, one that will be sure to take your mind on a scary exploration of reality and sanity. It’s dark, creepy, thrilling and absolutely worth your time.

Chris’ Review:

5 out of 5 stars

So you decided to continue reading our article huh? Well then, I guess I should actually review this masterpiece. Okay, so maybe I exaggerated just a little, but this was a great film. I’ve been craving a good movie like this for quite some time, and with the Oscars just five months away, we are about to start seeing some other really captivating movies before long.

If you’ve been living under a rock for the past month, you probably don’t know what this movie is. This film has been advertised on television and the Internet nonstop for a while now. This film follows the disappearance of Amy Dunne and the suspicions that fall on her husband, Nick Dunne. And that’s all I’m going to tell you about the plot because there is no way I’m ruining that for you.

If anyone has any doubts about the type of actor Ben Affleck is, this film will put that to rest. He does a great job portraying the unattached character that is Nick Dunne for most of the movie, and when they needed him to lose his temper, he gave us a madman. The actor that really stole the show though was Rosamund Pike, who plays Amy Dunne. I’m not saying that she deserves the Oscar just yet, but I would definitely throw her name in the hat right now.

What really astounds me though is how well the director, David Fincher, captured the suspense and drama. Every scene was a new clue designed not only for the detective in the film, but for the audience as well. Let’s not forget about the screenwriter, as well as the novel’s author, Gillian Flynn. She really dove deep into the psyches of each character and exposed the faults in modern long-term relationships (not mine though… Mine is great).

I would tell you so much more about this movie and about how Natalie kept making inappropriate comments about Ben Affleck, but I’d end up writing a full page, and frankly I don’t get paid enough for that. If you really need me to give you a bottom line about this movie after I spent about 300 words praising it, then maybe this movie is a little too highbrow for you. Go watch “Box Trolls.”
