basketball1Northwestern men’s basketball suffered a devastating 91-45 loss Tuesday to the Oklahoma State Cowboys.

The Northwestern Rangers took on the Division I Conference OSU Cowboys in an exhibition game at hallowed Gallagher-Iba Arena in Stillwater, Okla. this past Tuesday night.

The Rangers entered the game with a 1-1 overall record. The Cowboys entered riding on a 2-0 overall record.

Northwestern knew it was going to be a tough task to hand the Cowboys their first loss of the season, But the Rangers were ready for the challenge early on.

As play got underway, Ranger Adrian Motley was able to hit an early three point shot, putting the Rangers up 3-0. The Cowboys responded with a massive 23-1 run, jumping out to a 23-4 lead on Northwestern.

The Rangers were able to close the Cowboys lead to 23-10 with just under 10 minutes left in the half with help from Rangers Motley and T’Aries Taylor. Despite the attempted comeback by the Rangers, Oklahoma State was able to put an early stamp on the game by halftime.

When each team headed to the half, the lead was 49-20 in favor of the Cowboys.

The Rangers finished the first half shooting at only 3-13 from beyond the arc and 6-34 total.

As the second half got underway, it was still all Cowboys. Oklahoma State opened on a dominant 14-3 run, which brought the lead to 63-23 over the Rangers.

When the final buzzer sounded, the Rangers were handed their second loss of the young season with a final score of 91-45.

The Rangers were led by Darrian Dempsey who had 12 points and Laakeem Henderson who finished with 10. However, it was still a poor night shooting for Northwestern. They finished shooting 5-20 from beyond the arc and 14-60 in total.

The Cowboys were led by Phil Forte who had 18 points and Le’Bryan Nash who finished with 16. The Cowboys managed an average night shooting, finishing with 10-23 from beyond the arc and 35-63 in total.

The Rangers move to a 1-2 overall record and the Cowboys move to a 3-0 overall record.

Northwestern will open up play at home this Saturday at 3 p.m. in Alva.
