Choral Review

ChoirThe Northwestern choirs graced the Herod Hall auditorium with their talents and hard work Saturday. Their highly eventful year, which included a successful recruitment tour and performances in New York and Nashville, culminated in an outstanding arrangement of Broadway selections.

Herod Hall was packed with individuals from the university, Alva and surrounding communities. The audience appeared thrilled at the performances, energetically applauding and cheering after each selection.

With lively selections like that from “Grease” and “A Chorus Line” following more solemn selections like those from “Les Miserables” and “Ragtime,” each performance provided the audience with further variety and entertainment. Even the brief time between performances was not dead space, as the integration of trailers of Broadway selections and background information about the songs captured the attention of the audience.

Clearly, the Northwestern choirs possess great vocal talents and capabilities. Aside from the beautiful music they are capable of creating, each member performed with energy and enthusiasm. The University Singers are renowned internationally as not only talented choral members, but entertaining performers. Northwestern was given a glimpse of that talent at this spring concert.

Choir2Even beyond the music, the choirs skillfully managed demanding choreography and stage directions. Yes, they CAN tap-dance. Beautiful and unique costuming provided visual appeal matching the incredible music. Matching the choir’s talent was the wonderful instrumental section, proving the great appeal of live music.

Bravo to the Northwestern choirs for an outstanding performance and an incredible year of accomplishments.
