The COVID-19 pandemic is forcing K-12 school districts and universities to close and send students home. As colleges across the country switch to online courses on short notice, complications for those who don’t have a laptop, to the individuals who don’t have internet. Safe to say, COVID-19 has caused life to turn a full 360. Education is about to be changed completely, because online learning is having a big moment to shine. From canceled conferences, industries going to remote work, because of disrupted supply chains, not a speck of the global economy is safe from the spread of the novel corona virus.
In the midst of commotion, I have found a way to balance everything and honestly I couldn’t be happier with going online (sorry professors I’m sure it is annoying uploading everything to Blackboard). Now everything is online I can wake up and have a clear vision of everything that needs to be done, no more struggles of sorting through dirty laundry at 8:45 a.m. to find the perfect pair of sweatpants to wear to a 20 minute class. I now have my whole education at the press of a button and I’m in my comfy bed.
Although self-isolation and social distancing are the new trends, hanging out with your classmates while the professor teaches on different video conferencing platforms such as, Zoom at 9 a.m. is starting to become a part of the daily routine for students all over the world. Don’t worry, if Zoom isn’t your preferred method of teaching or learning, there are tons of other learning platforms such as WebEx, Instructure Canvas, Blackboard and Google Classroom. Learning will be digitalized, this is our reality now. Paper is comforting, as are overpriced textbooks. Who doesn’t enjoy sleeping in?
Well, here’s the deal, online learning requires discipline. Education requires discipline, but the online learning world has less hand-holding, less of someone telling you face-to-face what to do. So, get on top of your work and don’t forget that your dream job probably requires a college degree. Most importantly friends, check your email.
