The Northwestern men’s and women’s golf season kicks off in Goodwell, Okla. this Saturday.

The men enter the second half of the season coming off a steady improvement in the fall.

They started back in September with a tough tenth place finish in the GAC Preview, but since then, they have improved to finish the fall season in an impressive second place and fifth place at the NWOSU Invitational in Enid, Oklahoma.

“I would like to see our team put together some good scores and compete to win a tournament,” Northwestern senior, health and sports science major and Northwestern golf team member, Trevor Montgomery said about the second half of the season. “I would like to see our team make it in to the top three teams at conference.”

Following the spring season opener at Oklahoma Panhandle State University, they will travel to Russellville, Ark., for the Dave Fulconer Classic March 7-8.

“I am hoping to get some of our young guys motivated to make a good showing in conference,” men’s head coach Kyle Ward said.

“I feel like if we can get our young guys to get some motivation and leadership from both myself and our senior leaders, then I think we can make a good showing this year.”

The women’s team will enter the spring coming off of a fourth place finish in the NWOSU Invitational.

New head coach Aaron Ford notes that the first tournament of the year for the girls may in fact be the toughest test of the season.

Their season will get started in the OPSU Duel and then move to the Diffee Open in Edmond, Okla. at the same time the men are in Russellville.
