Northwestern Oklahoma State’s Women’s and Men’s Rodeo teams both competed in the Northwestern Oklahoma State Rodeo over this past weekend at the Woods County Fairgrounds as the women’s team would finish in second place overall and the men’s team finished in the number two spot as well.

The top Ranger performers in this rodeo included Sara Bynum (Barrel Racing), Laremi Allred (Goat Tying), Austin Graham (Bareback), and J.D. Struxness (Steer Wrestling).

Starting on the ladies side, Bynum finished the rodeo with a second place finish in the first-go, but pulled away from the pack from there on out as she claimed the top spot in the short-go, average and the overall points. Amber Miller also competed in the barrel racing event and took home second place finishes in the short-go, average, and overall points.

Allred turned in solid performances in the goat tying event as she finished in first place in the first-go but saw second place in the short-go run however. She went on to claim the top prize in the event coming in first in the average in the overall points. Shayna Miller had a solid run in the first-go as well coming in a tie for second place. Katy Miller and Tearnee Nelson each competed in the event over the weekend also.

Finally in the break away event, Katy Miller competed very well as she finished in fourth place in the first-go, short-go and in the average standings. Miller came in fifth in the overall points standings. Taylor Munsell competed in the break away event as well.

Switching over to the men’s side of the events, the Rangers competed very well in the tie down event as Bryson Sechrist was able to claim the second spot overall and in the average as well. Sechrist came in first in the short-go run also. Connor Osbourne and Wylee Nelson each competed in the event as well with Nelson coming in third in the first-go run.

The bareback event only featured one Northwestern team member in Austin Graham who turned in a clean sweep across the board. Graham came in first in the first-go and short-go runs along with claiming the top spot in the average and the overall points.

Struxness also completed a sweep of his own in the steer wrestling event coming away with first place finishes in the first-go and short-go runs, along with first in the average and the overall point’s standings. Tyrel Cline and Grayson Allred each competed in the event as well with Cline turning in a fourth place finish in the first-go run.

Finally Northwestern saw four team members compete in the team roping event which included Hunter Munsell, Sawyer Barnham, Mike McGinn, and Scott Day.

Northwestern Oklahoma State Women’s and Men’s Rodeo teams will be back in action on Thursday, Nov. 19 and concluding on Nov. 21 in Manhattan, Kan. at the Kansas State University Rodeo.
