Fall camp has come to an end and Ranger football is ready for action.

Freshman defensive lineman David Wright said “All of our coaches got us prepared for the season pushing all of us to be better, from the workouts, the weights and in conditioning.”

Ranger football will kick off their season opener against Ouachita Baptist Thursday Aug. 30.

The Rangers fell short to the Tigers by a field goal last season and look to even the score.

The Rangers have key offensive players returning: quarterback Isaiah Weed, running back Jalen Williams and wide receiver Horatio Smith.

“We have a quarterback run game, a power offensive line, but yet we have really explosive dynamic receivers that we can get the ball too,” head coach Matt Walter said. “I think we can do a lot of things, unlike two or three years ago when we would strictly throw the ball.”

On the defensive side, linebacker Maurice Wright Jr., and defensive backs Aharon Barnes and Erick Cook will lead the charge.

“With the incoming players buying in to the system and doing their job we’ll win,” Wright said. Everyone’s not going to make the spectacular play but when we all do our jobs collectively, we will be spectacular.”

“There is no doubt we have some of the best defensive guys in the conference,” Walter said. “While they are going to be huge for us this season, there will also be some areas where guys will have to fill some positions of guys we lost last season.”

Rangers face Ouachita Baptist University at home on Thursday. August 30.

The Rangers will look for a winning start against the Tigers on Thursday as they take the field in Alva.
