The women of Alpha Sigma Alpha and Delta Zeta have been busy contributing to one of their biggest fall events.

Recruitment week is the time when the two sororities here on campus get to meet with students interested in “going Greek.” Each recruitment week is unique for every campus. For Northwestern, recruitment involves two informative nights that take place before recruitment and four days of formal recruiting during the week.

According to Lexi Seacat, Delta Zeta vice president of recruitment and membership, recruitment week for Delta Zeta involves trying to find girls who can bond with as sisters and work with as teammates, as well as finding girls who are looking for a stable support system or family.

For this year’s fall recruitment week, Delta Zeta started off on Monday with open house night. The night lets potential members come to the Delta Zeta chapter room, meet the members of the sorority and see if Delta Zeta is the sorority that fits them. Tuesday was reserved as video night, which allows Delta Zeta to show each potential member what they stand for as well as what they value as a sorority. Preference night was the night that Delta Zeta members tried to bond with the potential members. Thursday, the final day of formal recruitment, was bid day, when new members find out which sorority will become their new sisterhood.

According to Chelsay Adams, Alpha Sigma Alpha vice president of public relations and recruitment, recruitment week for Alpha Sigma Alpha is an opportunity to share their hearts, memories, stories and their love for Alpha Sigma Alpha with new members. The days during formal recruiting were much like Delta Zeta’s.  Monday was an open house night allowing new members to visit the sorority’s chapter room. Tuesday was skit night, also known as video night. For this year, Alpha Sigma Alpha based their skit theme on the book, “The Great Gatsby.” In correlation with the sorority and the book, their theme was   “The Great A-Sigs.” On Wednesday night, Alpha Sigma Alpha also had preference night for new members. The following and final night of recruitment week was bid day. This night allowed the new members to learn about as well as celebrate their invitation to join the sorority.

Even though not every girl that went through recruitment week joined a sorority, both sororities’ recruitment numbers where higher than they were last year.

Even though the week of formal recruitment is over, the rest of the year will consist of informal recruitment. Each chapter will host continuous open bidding events to try to reach the maximum amount of members that each chapter is allowed to hold.
