The Northwestern volleyball team finished the month of October with a 6-6 record and an opportunity to make the playoffs.

Coach Fred Aubuchon said his team has its difficulties. He also said senior outside hitter Kaydee Honeycutt continues to step up for the Rangers and continues to have a great year.

Aubuchon said he does not feel like there is much to improve on. He says his team is skilled and needs to stay focused.

Aubuchon said winning two out of the last three games was a great bounce-back after losing to Southern Nazarene at home for the first time since 2016 and having a two-game losing streak.

Abby Davis, a sophomore setter, said her team had struggled in the past few games prior to the win against East Central on Thursday night.

With the Great American Conference Tournament just around the corner, Davis said she feels confident the team will get in.

“I feel really good,” Davis said. “We’re going to pull some upsets and get into the tournament.”

Davis also has quite a few Aces this season. Her SA/S (the total aces divided by the total service attempts) stands at 0.26 on the season.

Prior to the Rangers’ match-up with East Central, Davis said the team had a strategy to overcome the two-game losing streak.

“We’ve had a lot of talks together as a team about working together and harder,” Davis said.

The Rangers went 5-5 in their last 10 games, with their longest streak being a three-game losing streak against Ouachita Baptist, Arkansas Tech and Harding.

The Rangers’ longest win streak is also three games, with wins against Cameron University, Arkansas Monticello and Southern Arkansas University.

The Rangers upset the East Central Tigers Thursday night, as the Tigers were 13-12 going into the match-up while the Rangers were 9-18. The Rangers won the match, 3-1.
