The Northwestern Oklahoma State University Ranger football team defeated Oklahoma Baptist University 31-24 at home on Ranger Field on Saturday. The Rangers rushed for 316 yards during the game. Jacob Peyton and Anthony Cota alone rushed 145 and 109 yards respectively. Horatio Smith made two impressive catches that resulted in 125 yards and a touchdown.
Quarterback Jake McClurg passed for a total of 201 yards. Defensively, Maurice Wright Jr. led the Rangers with 16 tackles and a sack. Dakota Driskill and Mickal Arvie followed Wright with 13 and 12 tackles each. The fist points for the Rangers came off a field from kicker Zave Goodrich who kicked for 31 yards.
The three points were the only points scored in the first quarter. The Rangers dominated OBU in the second quarter, scoring three touchdowns before OBU was finally able to put their mark on the board with a field goal. Jacob Peyton scored his touchdown early in the second quarter before back-to-back touchdowns from Jake McClurg and Anthony Cota followed later in the second quarter.
With a 24-3 lead at halftime, OBU made the Rangers work for the win in the third and fourth quarter. The lone touchdown for the Rangers in the second half of the game came from Horatio Smith in the third quarter. OBU scored the first touchdown in the third quarter.
The Rangers were unable to covert on offense and OBU scored two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter to make it a 31- 24 ball game with eight minutes left. The Rangers, however, were not looking to let OBU have a chance at winning the game.
The Rangers held OBU to get the 31-24 victory. The Rangers will next face GAC opponent and heated rival Southwestern Oklahoma State University on Saturday for Senior Day at home
