Hello students, my name is Austin Rankin. I am the Student Government Association president. I hope that you had a fun, productive summer and that you are ready to kick off a fresh school year at NWOSU. On behalf of the Student Government Association, I would like to welcome you back to campus and wish you a successful year!
Many students, especially freshman, can struggle getting into the groove of things in their first few weeks at school. I remember my first few days at NWOSU and how stressful they were. Don’t worry, it always gets better. Here are two things that have enabled me to succeed in my four years at NWOSU.
“This college can simply be the place that you go to school, or you can decide to make it your second home”
— Austin Rankin, SGA President
First, go to class and stay organized. I know that it can be difficult to find classes, especially when you don’t quite have your schedule memorized. However, do what works best for you. If that means printing out your class schedule including times and locations, looking at your self-service every day, or creating a to-do list of daily tasks, do it! If you have a question or you’re having difficulty in a course do not hesitate to reach out to myself, any of the Student Government Association officers, your ranger connection leader (for freshmen), or anyone at Student Services.
Second, get involved! Some of you may be in sports, band, choir or other extracurriculars. For those students that aren’t, I have good news for you. The student government association has a place for you. Here at NWOSU we have over 40 active clubs and campus associations that can match your interests. From cultural clubs such as the Black Student Union and Spanish club, to political activity clubs including the College Democrats and College Republicans. Or clubs which may interest you according to your major such as the Chemistry, Med Sciences or Aggies Club. If you have something that you are passionate about, the Student Government Association cares about enabling you to grow in that passion.
I truly believe that NWOSU is the best college in the state of Oklahoma. Here at Northwestern, you are more than just a number. With professors that love what they’re teaching and an administration that wants you to succeed, you are in for an awesome ride here at Northwestern. But here’s the truth, no one is going to do it for you. This university, as great as it is, is a collection of buildings. It is you, the student that makes NWOSU into Northwestern Oklahoma State University. This college can simply be the place that you go to school, or you can decide to make it your second home.
I would like to encourage you once again to go to class, stay organized and get involved! Welcome to the Ranger Family and Ride Rangers Ride!
