For some people, working several different jobs would be quite a hassle.

For Andrew Santangelo, having all these tasks is just another day in the office.

A MAN WITH MANY HATS

As the sports information director at Northwestern, Santangelo works behind the scenes to make sure Northwestern athletic events are running smoothly.

Whether it be posting scores on social media, updating websites with stories and information, cleaning up arenas or broadcasting games on the radio, he is always zooming from one place to another.

He is the primary contact for the baseball, women’s basketball and soccer programs.

Despite how hectic gamedays can be, Santangelo said he always wanted to be around the sports industry.

He has always been around sports, as he grew up watching his four siblings compete in soccer, baseball and other activities.

However, he never thought that his love for sports would take him from his home in Collegeville, Philadelphia, to Stillwater, Oklahoma.

HOME AWAY FROM HOME

After his junior year in high school ended, Santangelo traveled halfway across the country to Stillwater for a media camp on the campus of Oklahoma State University.

“When I arrived at OSU, I knew that this was a place I wanted to be,” Santangelo said. “I loved the media camps, and I made sure that one of the first things I did when I got home was to apply to OSU.”

Santangelo returned to Stillwater in 2016, and in two years he found himself working for the OSU Division I Athletic Program as an event intern. He graduated in 2019 with a degree in sports management.

Since starting at Northwestern, Santangelo has worked on a master’s degree in adult education management and administration with an emphasis in sports administration

FRAME OF MIND

Santangelo helped with several different sports, including his favorite pastime, baseball.

“My love for baseball comes from my dad,” Santangelo said. “One of our family traditions was attending the Philadelphia Phillies home opener for the longest time.”

Santangelo’s passion for baseball has not changed since he came to Northwestern, as he still travels to see the Phillies every year.

No matter where he is, Santangelo always has sports on his mind.
