Northwestern net’s a 1-0 victory over Oklahoma Christian behind Legaspi’s 13 saves on Saturday but were not able to outlast the Bulldogs on Tuesday.
Reigning GAC goalkeeper of the year, Briana Legaspi came up big for the Rangers Saturday, as she filled the afternoon with amazing highlight saves against the Eagles.
As the back and forth first half was coming to a close, Legaspi made her first outstanding save of the game with an over the head two handed glove save.
The save kept the game at 0-0 as the game went to halftime.
Legaspi recorded her next highlight save at the 49 minute mark of the game when she faced a very crucial Eagle penalty kick.
Along with the great defensive play by Legaspi, Rangers Arlet Polack and Alyssa Williams had great days on the offensive side.
Polack was a key offensive threat for the Rangers as she recorded two shots on goal, with one goal coming at the 48 minute mark.
Williams also made an offensive threat for the Rangers as she recorded three shots at the goal.
The win for Northwestern was head coach Craig Liddell’s first NCAA win.
The Rangers then played arch rival and conference opponent Southwestern on Tuesday.
Unfortunately a very strong offensive performance from the Bulldogs was too much for the Rangers as they fell 2-0 on the road in Weatherford, Okla. according to swosuathletics.com.
Northwestern (1-3-1) will head home to the Alva Rec Complex to face the Newman University Jets tonight at 7 p.m.
