Northwestern soccer beat reigning GAC champions Oklahoma Baptist.

Northwestern Oklahoma State University Rangers soccer forced a huge upset against reigning Great American Conference champions Oklahoma Baptist on the road Saturday afternoon.

Oklahoma Baptist came out seeming to own the ball during the first half of the match. The entire game was a battle of possessions with neither team being able to break through.

The first half was fairly evenly matched with OBU taking eight shots and Northwestern taking 5. Reyna Gonzalez had a phenomenal game with seven saves throughout, three in the first half and four in the second.

The second half was dominated by OBU as they took 10 shots to Northwestern’s one.

The Rangers stepped up and defended the 19 shots that the Bison took to keep the game scoreless 0-0, and sent the game into the first overtime period.

Eight minutes into the ten-minute overtime period Makayla Barrientos gets a good chance to take a shot, but OBU goalie makes an amazing save to give the Rangers a corner kick.As the ball is sent towards the Bison’s goal Alyssa Nunez sees an opportunity and takes it.
The Rangers improve to 5-6-1 overall.
