With the arrival of fall comes the return of many favorite superhero shows and even a few new ones.
The primary network that comes to mind is The CW with its well-received “Arrow” and “The Flash” series, with “Arrow” returning for its fourth season, and “The Flash” for its second.
DC is trying to challenge Marvel on the small screen rather than try to win outright on film by creating a connected TV universe between the two aforementioned shows with plans to expand into more.
DC’s “Legends of Tomorrow” will be coming around halfway through the CW’s fall lineup to cooperate with “The Flash” and “Arrow.” It will be a spin-off set in the Arrow universe, following a team of heroes with occasional appearances by Green Arrow and The Flash.
CBS holds the rights to another DC character Supergirl, who is getting a show of the same name. However, CBS is unsure if it will allow The CW to utilize her or if they want to be a part of that universe at all.
Marvel’s lineup is more about renewal with one or two new shows in the mix. “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” season three just debuted on ABC on Aug. 29. “Agent Peggy Carter” has been renewed for season two. “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” season three will be about S.H.I.E.L.D.’s demise and what the agents will do now that it is gone.
Marvel is also exploring its Netflix contract further. After the success of “Daredevil” there has been three more confirmed series from Marvel. These series will converge after all have had their run on Netflix to form a team-based show of the four main characters.
Fox has picked up a new Marvel series called “Lucifer.” It will feature a Devil bored with perdition who moves to Earth to punish the wicked and toy with humanity. The pilot has already been released and did devilishly well.
