The Ranger Volleyball team (7-6 in GAC play) is currently sitting in sixth place in the Great American Conference.

The position that the team is in has clinched them a spot in the 2015 GAC Volleyball Championship. Volleyball is the first team at Northwestern to clinch a playoff berth in Division II.

At home on Friday Northwestern had more momentum. The Rangers took down the Savage Storm of Southern Nazarene University 3-1.

The first set it was back and forth between SNU and Northwestern but eventually the Savage Storm took the set 25-22. SNU took the second set and the Rangers took the third.

Eventually in the fourth set Northwestern found their rhythm and won 25-19.

Offensively, To’omalatai as well as Ashanti Banks totaled 13 kills each. Kaydee Yukawa had 17 digs and 25 assists.

On Saturday, the Rangers traveled to Oklahoma Baptist to take on the Bisons. OBU defeated Northwestern 3-0 (25-9, 25-18, 26-24). Northwestern battled hard but in wasn’t enough.

In the first set the Rangers couldn’t pick up the momentum with OBU going 25-9. In the second set, the teams battled back and forth. In the third set, the Rangers took the lead but after a hard fight from the Bison, they ended up letting it slip from their grasp.

Lachelle Purrier led the team with seven kills. Nora To’omalatai led the defense with twelve digs.

Northwestern’s next few games are extremely important on their placement in the GAC Volleyball Championship. The Lady Rangers will head to Durant, Okla. and battle the Savage Storm of Southeastern Oklahoma State University at 6 p.m. on Friday and then travel to Ada, Okla. to face the Tigers of East Central at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
