The Northwestern Volleyball team competed at the Kathleen Brasfield ASU Invitational. The Rangers first faced off against Texas A&M Kingsville and Fort Lewis University. In game No. 1, The Javelinas of Texas A&M Kingsville came out hot with a 5-0 lead. The Rangers tied it at 8 all.
Kaydee Honeycutt and Kiauna Clark helped keep the Rangers in the match. Unfortunately, the Rangers lost the first set 25-21.
In the second set, Kate Deterding had three kills within the first four points of the match.
The score was 10-10 until A&M Kingsville got on a roll. They won the second set 25-19.
The third set went similar to the second one with the core being tied 10-10. The Javelinas won the third set 18-25.
Northwestern faced off against Fort Lewis University Skyhawks in the second game.
The Rangers were behind and then Honeycutt turned it around for the rangers with back to back kills. Northwestern came back to tie the game at 22-22.
The Rangers fell just short and lost the match 25-23.
The next three sets were a back and forth battle. The Skyhawks won the second game 26-24.
Although the Rangers lost 26-24 the Rangers led 20-15 in the last set. The Skyhawks were able to overcome the deficit and win 26-24.
On day two of the tournament, the Rangers faced off against New Mexico Highlands University and Angelo State University.
The first game was against New Mexico Highlands Cowgirls. The Rangers had an early lead and kept it. Northwestern lead 8-2 and never let up, and won the first set 25-14.
The Cowgirls led for half of the second set. but Northwestern won the second set 25-23.
In the third set, Kaitlyn Robinson had a great match with 28 assists. Northwestern was able to secure the win 22-16. The Rangers were able to recover from errors and won the final set 25-21. The Rangers earned their first win of the season.
In match 2, the Rangers faced off against Angelo State University Belles. Angelo State was able to finish and capture the win in the first set 14-25. Northwestern could not find a groove in the second set. Angelo State stayed consistent and won the second set 13-25.
It was a back and forth battle in the first half of the last set. Angelo State won the third set 15-25.
The Rangers finished with a record of 1-3 at the end of the tournament.
The lady Rangers will head to Hays, Kansas, to compete in the Tiger Classic on Sept. 13-14.
