The Barbie movie has been blowing up the internet this summer with TikTok trends and brand collaborations.
Barbie was marketed in such a way where no one knew what the movie was about. It got a lot of attention, making people want to go dress up in their pink and watch the movie.
Barbie, however, was not just a movie about dolls, it had a deeper meaning.
One of the reasons that Barbie was worth the hype is the way women are treated in the real word and Kens are treated in Barbieland.
The fact that women are treated differently than men is nothing new but the way Barbie displayed this was in a different and new way.
In Barbieland, the Kens were inferior to the Barbie’s. They did not have any jobs and there were several jokes about how Ken’s job was just “beach.”
This is like how women were often told they belong in the kitchen and not in the workforce.
The second reason Barbie is worth the hype, is the speech America Ferrara, who plays Gloria, gives towards the end.
The speech is empowering to women and motivates the Barbies to take back Barbieland from the Kens.
A lot of women who have seen this movie also have said after watching they broke up with their verbally abusive boyfriends. They heard the speech and realized like the Barbies that they do not like being treated how they were.
Some people think Barbie was not worth the hype though. This is because they did not get the meaning of the movie or did not agree with the message behind it.
Barbie was creative and showed that no one should be treated differently just because of their gender. I personally watched Barbie and would say it is definitely worth the watch.
