The J.R. Holder wellness center is meant to help students as well as the community live a healthier lifestyle. It’s a place you can get some exercise to relieve some stress before and during the semester.
It consists of a variety of cardio machines and strength training equipment, an indoor track, racquetball courts and even an indoor junior Olympic swimming pool.
The wellness also provides yoga classes, personal training and massage therapy, as well as exercise classes you can take around your busy school schedule. The wellness is truly the place to be.
Northwestern sophomore, Hunter Frisby, spoke about his experiences at the wellness center. “It’s a very respectful environment and a professional atmosphere. Frisby said. “Everyone there will always ask before they assume you’re done with the weights and it’s also kept clean. It’s in order so that you don’t have to walk around to find something.” Working out at the Wellness is a place where you should feel comfortable to exercise and to work on your health. Some people who typically may not exercise as much as others may feel some discomfort or anxiety about going to the wellness. The catch is wellness isn’t like any other gym it welcomes everyone in all ethnicities, shapes and sizes.
A helpful hint, with a number of people around the campus and community trying to get their workout in, timing is something you have to take into consideration. Frisby said “I tend to go around 7pm, because in the morning’s people are always trying to go in there to work out before they head to work, and after work there is a nice sized crowed around 5pm. So around 6:30-7 PM people will be all cleared out and you’ll be free to get your daily workout in.” Feel free to come on by, the hours of operation at the wellness center are Monday-Friday, 6 am – 9 pm, Saturday, 9 am – 3 pm and Sunday, 4 pm – 8 pm. The director of the facility is Richard Burdick if you have any further questions.
