With tornado season rapidly approaching, it is time to inform oneself of the safety protocols utilized on the Northwestern Oklahoma State University campus. Alva, Okla. is in the center of tornado alley, so it is of utmost importance to be weather aware in the coming months. If you are not familiar with safety protocals, do not fear. We have compiled the most important facts to know about tornado safety at Northwestern, including shelter locations and safety tips

Northwestern has a recommendations as to what safety guidelines should be followed in the event of severe weather. Included in today’s edition are tricks and tips that will help you remain safe in tornado season.

Know the items recommended for a first-aid kit

– Absorbant Compress

Dressings

– Adhesive bandages

(assorted sizes)

– Antibiotic ointment

– Antiseptic wipes

– Aspirin

– Cold Compress

– Disposable nonlatex

– Sterile gauze pads

– Tweezers

– First aid instruction

Basement. Access is available by elevator.

 

Vinson Hall

Basement. Access is available by elevator or at the base of either staircase.

 

Fine Arts

Basement. Access is available on the first floor, north wall across from the Office of Recruitment.

 

Science Building

First floor, east-west hallway.

 

Jesse Dunn

First floor bathrooms.

 

Health and Sports Science Building

South end of main north-south hallway.

 

Residence Halls

First floor, interior hallway.

 

If you are unable to seek shelter in any of these facilities, move indoors as quickly as possible and move to an interior hallway or small room at the lowest level of the structure, away from windows. Avoid upper floors, large glassed areas, gymnasiums and auditoriums.

These safety locations are posted on informational posters throughout campus if you ever have a question of where you need to go when a severe storm strikes; however, it is best to become familiar with safe zones ahead of time.
