Northwestern’s annual children’s production, “Beanie and the Bamboozling Book Machine,” will be today through Saturday in Herod Hall auditorium.
Today and Friday’s performances will be for school groups only at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday’s performance will be open to the public at 2 p.m. The cost will be $1 per person.
“Beanie and the Bamboozling Book Machine” is about Beanie, a science wiz who doesn’t like reading and makes a machine to read his books for him. His principle, Mr. Wright, is very unhappy when the machine has complications and the Wicked Witch of the West from “The Wizard of Oz, Candy from “Hansel and Gretel,” and the queen and seven dwarves from “Snow White” arrive from book world. Dr. Librum, the head of the book world, comes to earth along with The Dewie Decimal System — Hewie, Dewie, Lewie, Dorothy, Snow White and Hansel and Gretel — to help Mr. Wright and Beanie get the witches back into the books.
The cast consist of Acting I class and a few seniors who desired to be in the production.
Kimberly Weast, professor of theater art and director of the show, said that they expect good attendance this year. Weast said, “We have a little over 850 students and sponsors coming to the show on Thursday and Friday of this week, schools as far away as Gage to as close to home as Alva. We highly encourage parents to bring preschoolers, church groups, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts and children of all ages.”
Weast said principals and teachers ask for the dates of the annual children’s production a year in advance. “They want to make sure the production is on their calendar early.”
She said the production has always seen a positive response from the audience. “The annual children’s production has always been a favorite for kids of all ages for many years and we hope it will continue to be for many years to come.
The annual children’s production has been presented by the NWOSU Theater and the Castleplayers Troup for 30 years.
