Northwestern Oklahoma State men’s and women’s cross country teams competed in the University of Arkansas Chile Pepper Fest this past weekend.

According to riderangersride.com, senior Sterling Broomfield led the way for the men as finished 292 place with a time of 27:22.89.

Fellow senior Luis Chavez was next for the Rangers as he ran at a time of 27:56.38 to place him 337.

Chavez says that he ran well considering the circumstances.

“Individually I believe I ran well overall,” Chavez said. “With so much competition and over 400 runners in the race it’s hard to run your pace and it cost me to finish strong in the last two miles. I don’t like to make excuses but I need to run a smart tactical race.”

Sophomore Brandon Hurst finished in 362 place with a time of 28:12.40.  Senior Jordan Evans finished with a time of 28:55.04 for 398 place.  Coming in 457 place was Jake Goodman who finished with a time of 32:38.16.

Finishing up for the men, was Anthony Jauregui in 459 with a time of 34:54.70.

Senior Brittany Urban led the Rangers, as she finished the course in 20:13.82 in 297 place.

Finishing with a final time of 21:57.96 to place in 397 was senior Kaitlyn O’Toole.

Junior Willow Gahr placed in 407 with a final time of 22:16.51.

Junior Rebecca Black finished in 413 place with a recorded time of 22:43.20.

Chavez said he is encouraged by the team’s improvement. “I’m really impressed with how the team ran,” Chavez said. “Placing may not show it, but our times are getting better and the workouts are paying off.”

According to RideRangersRide.com, the Rangers will be back in action Saturday in the Fort Hays University meet in Fort Hays, Kan. at 9 a.m

Chavez says he is excited about this meet and to expect big things from both teams.  “This Saturday is what we us a team have been looking forward to as we run at Hays, Kansas,” Chavez said.

He said, “I believe records will be broken with the women and men teams if we run to our potential.  With that being said, our season is winding down and we are down to our last three meets of the season. It’s been great so far, so I want finish on a high note.”
