All Northwestern Oklahoma State University students are required to take the Haven-Understanding Sexual Assault™ course by Nov. 13.

According to the National Institute of Justice one in five college women, and one in 16 men will experience some form of non-consensual sexual activity by graduation.  The widespread impact of sexual violence on students presents an urgent and pressing challenge for our nation’s campuses.

Therefore, all educational intuitions that receive Title IX financial aid are required to enforce their students to take the sexual assault training course: Haven – Understanding Sexual Assault™ that addresses the critical issues of sexual assault, relationship violence, and stalking, which affect countless college students across the country.

“You are not alone in this training requirement.  All colleges and universities who provide Title IV financial aid must train all students enrolled in their respective institutions,” said Calleb Mosburg, Dean of Student Affairs at Northwestern.

According to the US Department of Education at www2.ed.gov- The U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights (OCR) enforces, among other statutes, Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972. Title IX protects people from discrimination based on sex in education programs or activities that receive Federal financial assistance.

Title IX states that:  No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.

Title IX applies to institutions that receive federal financial assistance from the Education Department (ED), including state and local educational agencies.  Educational programs and activities that receive ED funds must operate in a nondiscriminatory manner.

According to the Haven Course introduction- sexual and relationship violence occurs too frequently and can impact anyone; it doesn’t matter what your age, race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, or socioeconomic status might be.
