Northwestern is offering scholarships to potential students who sign up for the university’s first virtual Spring Showcase
.
University recruiters put the annual event together to encourage students to attend the university.
This year, however, the event will take place online.
“It’s virtual,” said Selena Gates, a Northwestern recruitment officer. “All they (students) have to do is register, which they can do by calling us or they can go online.”
To participate in the event, students must tune in at 10 a.m. Feb. 27. to the university’s YouTube channel, named “Northwestern Oklahoma State University,” to watch a live video about Northwestern.
Students who watch the video and choose to attend the university will receive a $500 scholarship.
A virtual tour of the university’s campus will be linked to the live video, along with introduction videos for the university’s departments and clubs.
The videos show graduating high school students and transfer students what is available to them if they come to Northwestern.
“It has a big impact that gives just another opportunity for students to have one day on the calendar to be able to see what Northwestern has to offer,” said Calleb Mosburg, Northwestern’s dean of student affairs. “We hate that we can’t do it on campus the semester, but the virtual events will be really good.”
In years past, as many as 1,000 potential students have signed up for Ranger Preview, Mosburg said.
Administrators hope to see similar numbers this year.
