The Dallas Cowboys lost simply and factually. The game had a few calls that should have swung in their favor here and there but overall it felt like they beat themselves.

The Cowboys are called “America’s Team” from their 1978 highlight tape where the narrator of the film coined the term. The name stuck and from that moment on Dallas fans truly believed it.

For the first time in a long time the Cowboys had a legit chance to win a Super Bowl. On the backs of two rookies who turned into their two of their best players no less.

Hopes and spirits were high as the Cowboys fought and ended the regular season with a 13-3 record. They were rolling teams left and right, and their losses either came early or close.

On January 15, the Cowboys met the end of their season in the divisional round of the playoffs against another pedigree team, the Green Bay Packers.

The Cowboys loss hit fans hard, with reaction videos showing fans destroying televisions, screaming, breaking other items around their homes, and crying a large amount of crying.

It showed a passion, or obsession, throughout the fan base that only a few people from other fan bases have. It was experienced in Coronado Hall as the final field goal from the Packers sealed the deal.

Fighting back tears, punching at the air, yelling to vent frustration, the Cowboys first shot to win a Super Bowl arguably since their dynasty in the 1990’s had been lost.

The Cowboys represented family to them, something they grew up with and loved that brought people together. Something they saw and thought “that’s something I’m proud to be a part of.”

Freshman Kolton Fishback said. “The Cowboys mean everything to me I’ve watched them since I was born I’ve always loved seeing that star on the team I love. I’m a Cowboy for life I bleed blue and silver.”

Those that were in Coronado Hall when they lost were either too young to remember all the details of the game they saw, or not even born yet for the Cowboys last Super Bowl. Seeing that championship happen for a team they have been following their whole lives is everything.

Of course not everyone on campus is a Cowboys fan, but everyone that is a sports fan can relate to the feeling. There is always next year to grab more talent and for the young players to improve.

Next year may very well be the Cowboys year to win the Super Bowl. If you don’t believe it is ask any Cowboys fan they’ll tell you so.
