The vice president of Northwestern’s Student Government Association is running unopposed in his bid to be the organization’s next president, the Northwestern News has learned.

Dawson Maxwell, a junior criminal justice major from Perry, is the lone candidate for the Student Government Association’s highest-ranking position. He’s expected to take office before the semester ends.

The filing period for that office and others ended Friday at 5 p.m.

Maxwell is one of seven candidates who filed to run for a position on the student-led board, which plans campus activities and acts as a liaison between the student body and university administrators.

Northwestern students will elect student government leaders April 6 and 7. Students will vote via email, officials said, and election results will be announced April 7.

The president’s office was the only uncontested race. Two students filed for all other offices on the ballot.

In the vice president’s race, sophomore computer science major Grayson Pray is running against senior psychology major Yosbelli Lora.

For the office of treasurer, sophomore health and sports science major Collin Zink is opposed by junior elementary education major Erika Hernandez.

In the final office on the ballot, the secretary’s office, sophomore English major Angel Marshall will face freshman political science major Austin Rankin.
