With college basketball underway, we have reached the peak of the college sports season.

This is truly one of the best times of the year, not only for the games, but for the storylines that come with it. However, there is one story that keeps reoccurring this season known as conference realignment.

It all started when Oklahoma and Texas announced their move to the SEC, but the effects of realignment could potentially impact Northwestern.

Over the summer, there was an interim study in the Oklahoma House of Representatives to see what it would take to create an 11-team conference that would involve members from Oklahoma.

Of those 11 members, six of them would be from the GAC, while the others would be Cameron University, Northeastern State University, Rogers State University, Oklahoma Christian University and the University of Central Oklahoma.

The idea of an Oklahoma onl conference sounds great, but the logistics to make everything around the conference work would be challenging.

To start, the conference would only have eight football members, as Cameron, Rogers State and Oklahoma Christian do not have football programs. This would put the football programs in a difficult position, as they would have longer road trips than they currently have.

While the Arkansas schools are up to eight hours away for Northwestern, I would rather have those trips than the 30-hour trip up to Canada to play Simon Fraser University.

There is a chance the conference could be created, but it would require three colleges to all start football programs, as well as all 11 colleges deciding that they want to come together and create this conference instead of doing what they think is best for them.

As much as I would like to see all the Division 2 Oklahoma schools play each other in a conference, I do not think it is possible right now.

Games of the Week

In college football, Oklahoma travels to Waco to play a tough Baylor team that has given the Sooners problems in the past. Another game to keep an eye on will be Purdue at Ohio State, as the Boilermakers try to beat a top-5 team for the third time this season. Texas A&M at Ole Miss will be a fun game as well, as the Aggies rely on their defense, while the Rebels have a great offense.

Enjoy a great week of sports.
