The Northwestern women’s rodeo team claimed first place at the Fort Hays State University rodeo.

The men’s team finished the weekend in fifth place. Jon Laine Herl was second in the Men’s All-Around race, with Ty Batie right behind taking third.

The Northwestern women took control of the goat tying with four cowgirls representing Northwestern in the championship round. Shayna Miller once again claimed first place, while Lauren Barnes split third for the weekend. Elli Price split seventh, and Tearnee Nelson finished ninth.

Samantha McGuire was the only Northwestern cowgirl who made it back to the short round in breakaway roping. McGuire finished her weekend eighth. In barrel racing, Sara Bynum claimed seventh and Kelsey Cloud took ninth.

Five Northwestern cowboys made the trip back to the short round in team roping. Dalton Richards roped on the head side for Ben Whiddon from SEOKSU and finished the weekend second. Herl and Chase Lako wrapped up their weekend with third, and Edgar Fierro and Batie claimed fifth.

In steer wrestling, Herl split second, and Batie took fifth. Grayson Allred finished sixth for the weekend.

The Rangers will be back in action today through Saturday at Panhandle State University, the final stop before the College National Finals Rodeo.
