The Northwestern Foundation and Alumni Association joined the global movement #GivingTuesday for the second straight year.
After raising more than $30,000 for student scholarships during the event in 2015, the Foundation decided this year it’s aim was to significantly increase the numbers of its online participants, according to Northwestern Foundation and Alumni Association CEO, Skeeter Bird in a press release by University Relations.
#GivingTuesday is a global day following Thanksgiving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy and generosity worldwide.
The event aims to inspire people to collaborate in improving their local communities by giving back in charities and various causes they support.
#GivingTuesday this year will take place Nov. 29. Any gift made to the RISE (Rangers Investing in Students and Education) annual giving fund from Nov. 29-Dec. 16 will count toward the Giving Tuesday campaign.
“Our donors realize what a quality value it is to invest in Northwestern and our students,” Bird said in a statement released on Nov. 9. “Even though the state budget situation is the worst in decades, our donors realize the importance investing in higher education and they choose to invest in our students for the long term.”
Bird added, “Every single one of us can make a difference if we make the commitment.”
