An Alva elementary education major will reign as Freshman Queen at Homecoming next week.
Sadie Vore heard the news Tuesday night at the Ranger Royalty banquet. The Ranger Queen finalists were narrowed to three candidates: Shelby Boxberger, Kaci Hansen and Montana McCullough. The king finalists are Isileli Ofiu and Clayton Garcia. Final voting for king and queen takes place Monday and Tuesday online.
Last year’s Ranger King Bruce Wright, Ranger Queen Morgan Renbarger and Ranger Freshman Queen Emily Harris also attended the event Tuesday night.
After being announced new Ranger Freshman Queen, Vore said she felt kind of shocked, but it felt awesome. Vore said she campaigned for Ranger Freshman Queen because she wanted to reach out to people who she might have not reached out to if she had not campaigned. “[While] campaigning I got to meet tons of new people,” she said, “and I have a lot of new friends just because I campaigned for this.”
SGA President Kaitlyn O’Toole said the Ranger Royalty event is a long-standing tradition that brings the campus and the community together. For two years in a row the Ranger Freshman Queen has been from Alva.
The Ranger Royalty will reign over Homecoming activities next week. O’Toole said Homecoming has a huge value to the campus and is one of the biggest events held by SGA. “Not only does it recognize our football team,” she said, “it also recognizes other efforts that go into this campus considering our volleyball team, soccer team and any other sports that are in season.”
Kaylyn Hansen, director of Student Life and Counseling, is SGA’s co-adviser and will be emailing a link for Ranger King and Queen Final voting to all students. The Ranger King and Queen will be announced at the Homecoming football game Oct. 10.
